But my client *really* wants a mega-menu. They *really* want SSO with D6. They *really* want etc etc. My journey in making it not totally awful...
Actually, this session will be about my journey so far, implementing a brownfield Drupal 8 website that will, for the next few months at least, work alongside its ancestor, a mix of Drupal 6, vBulletin, custom Perl and even 2001 era MovableType.
I'll be giving an overview of how we approached the following aspects of the development:
- Using a single user account across Drupal 6, vBulletin and Drupal 8
- Migrating content out of MovableType into Drupal 8
- Replicating the content of blocks between Drupal 6 site and Drupal 8 site
But then spending more time and detail in how we first tried to implement a responsive mega-menu in Drupal 8, how we changed our minds several times and finally found a way of doing it that the client likes and I don't hate. The result isn't what you might expect.
I will be showing *some* pieces of code but it will mainly be about the various conversations had across the Drupal community as we figured out how to do all these things in an environment where Drupal 8 is still a bit of a moving target on occasion and we are *all* still learning.
